PENSACOLA, Fla. - For the first time since 2016, the No. 7-seeded Columbia College women's soccer team has advanced to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Soccer Quarterfinals. Columbia defeated MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) this afternoon in the Round of 16, 2-1.
In the 30th minute of action,
Riley Porter connected on the first goal of the contest, securing a 1-0 lead over the Pioneers. Porter leads the Cougars in goals this season, adding her 24th in today's match.
Nearing the 60th minute of play, Columbia gave up a foul in the penalty box, where the Pioneers evened out the score, 1-1.
Clinching the contest for the Cougars was
Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco, assisted by
Delaynie Brown in the 72nd minute.Â
Columbia out shot MidAmerica Nazarene 11-6.
Natalie Allison stood in goal for the Cougars, securing the 2-1 victory.
Columbia will face No. 2-seeded William Carey (Miss.) on December 5 in the NAIA Quarterfinals. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
