COLUMBIA, Mo. - The (RV) Columbia College women's basketball team remains unbeaten this season after taking an 89-50 victory over Crowley's Ridge College (Ark.) this evening. The Cougars improve to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC).
Columbia's
Ashtyn Klusmeyer notched her first double-double of her collegiate career, scoring 11 points while bringing down 10 rebounds. Klusmeyer landed at the free throw line eight times, shooting 7-8 from the line.
Columbia began with a strong first quarter of play, led by
Lauren Friedrich as she contributed 12 points, while
Mya Miller scored nine of her own. The Cougars shot nearly 53 percent from the field, and 50 percent from the arc, jumping to an early 15-5 lead. Going into the second quarter, Columbia led 28-11.
Through the entirety of the second quarter, the Cougars allowed the Pioneers just two points. Columbia outscored Crowley's Ridge 25-2.
Columbia stayed consistent in the final two quarters of play, scoring 18 points in the third and fourth quarters. With 8:02 remaining in the contest, Columbia saw their largest lead of the contest of 47 points.
The Cougar bench put together 35 points, while the team collectively had 40 paint points.
In tonight's contest,
Bri Avey and
Alli Robertson also earned their first points of their collegiate careers.
Lexi Miller led the Cougars with 19 points, shooting 58 percent from the field and 4-7 from three point range.
Columbia returns to the court for more AMC action on December 7 as they face Williams Baptist University (Ark.). Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
