Women's Soccer Ends Historic Season at NAIA Semifinals

PENSACOLA, Fla. - In the Semifinals of the NAIA Women's Soccer Championships, the No. 7-seeded Columbia College women's soccer team was defeated by No. 3-seeded Keiser University (Fla.), 3-2 in OT.

Columbia (20-2-1, 7-0 American Midwest Conference) had a historic season, advancing to the Semifinals for the first time in program history, along with securing the second-most wins in program history.

In the contest, the Cougars were outshot 12-3, while Natalie Allison was credited with six saves through 90 minutes of action. Keiser also recorded seven corners to Columbia's three.

Thirty-five minutes into the contest, Columbia got on the board first, after a corner kick from Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco was perfectly placed into the five-yard box and deemed an on goal.

Just over two minutes later, a foul was recorded on Columbia in the penalty box, allowing Keiser a penalty kick opportunity. The Seahawks converted, tying the game at 1-1.

Into the half, the score remained 1-1.

In the 65th minute of play, a foul was called on Keiser in the penalty box, giving Columbia a chance to regain the lead. The chosen penalty kicker, Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco, gave the Cougars the 2-1 advantage for her 23rd goal of the season.

After a foul was drawn on Columbia just outside of the penalty box, Keiser took advantage of the opportunity. After Riley Porter made a nice defensive save heading the ball away from the goal, the Seahawks got the rebound, drilling the ball into the back of the net from the center of the penalty box.

At the end of regulation, the score sat at 2-2.

This resulted in sudden death OT. Nearly five minutes into OT from the top of the penalty box, the Seahawks saw an opening in the corner of the net, finalizing the match in their favor, 3-2.
