Columbia, Mo. - The Cougars of Columbia College took on the Owls of William Woods in an American Midwest Conference double-header today.
The Cougars got off to a fast start in game one as they lead 6-0 at the end of the first. From there, the Cougars scored one run in the second and one in the third to lead 8-0 heading into the fourth. After the Owls scored twice in the top of the fourth, the Cougars responded with an inside the park home run from
Sophia Angel that included three RBI, giving CC the 11-2 lead. Three outs in the top of the fifth earned Columbia the game one win.
Game two saw a back-and-forth effort from both teams. William Woods lead 7-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Columbia would score three runs to tie the game and move to a decisive seventh inning. After a quick three outs on defense to hold the Owls scoreless, the Cougars used a hit from
Jazlin Gottman to get on base.
Tasia Green used a sacrifice bunt to move Gottman to second, before
Madyson Wear subbed in to run for her. After
Suzanna Shanks was walked,
Emily King launched a double up and over the right fielder to score Wear and with it, win the game 8-7.
Columbia is back in action tomorrow with another conference double-header. The Cougars will take on the Comets of Cottey College at 2:00 and 4:00 at Antimi Softball Complex.
