COLUMBIA, Mo. - In day one of the Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic, the No. 7 Columbia College volleyball team took on one of the top teams in the nation in No. 4-ranked Concordia University (Neb.).
The Cougars and Bulldogs battled out a five-set match, but Columbia dropped the decision, 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-17).
Columbia came out of the gates securing their highest hitting percentage of the night at .282, gathering 14 kills in the set.
Concordia returned the favor, capturing a .257 hitting percentage in the second set, followed by a stellar .346 third set endeavor.
Alayna Rooks led the Cougars with 13 kills, while
Agatha Emanuelle and
Allana Capella captured nine of their own. Emanuelle also carried out four blocks to lead Columbia.
Aubrey Kohl dished out 28 assists, as Giovanna Bialho secured 14.
Clara Gower filtered a career-high of 20 digs in the contest.
Sude Gundogan and
Mariana De Carvalho each produced two service aces.
The Cougars ended the night with 57 kills, rounding out at 17 percent, while the Bulldogs produced 65 kills for nearly 22 percent.
Columbia continues action in the Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic tomorrow, taking on MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 12:30 PM, and No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan at 5:30 PM.
