Cougars Go The Distance With Valor on Road

Box Score Springfield, MO - The 25th-ranked Cougars of Columbia College went the distance tonight with the Valor of Evangel University on the road. 

With the loss, Columbia falls to 7-8 overall and will play next at home on Tuesday, September 24th, against American Midwest Conference opponent William Woods University. 

After taking the first set, the Cougars dropped sets two and three and found themselves down 2-1. 

In the fourth set, both teams traded points early until Columbia opened a four-point lead at 13-9. Evangel tried to chip away at the deficit, but the Cougars continued to push and took a late 22-17 lead. Isabella Kincaid served the Cougars from 22-17 to 24-18 when a kill from Giovanna Bicalho ended the fourth set. 

Evangel started the fifth set with energy as they took a quick 7-4 lead over Columbia, prompting an early timeout from Head Coach Allison Jones-Olson. The Valor continued to put the pressure on the Cougars as Columbia struggled to find an answer. Trailing 14-11, kills from Katerina Pappa and Mariana De Carvalho brought the Cougars to within one, 14-13, but a kill from Evangel ended the match.
