Carson Parker scored 31 points and
Seth Larson added a career-best 27 on 10-of-11 shooting to lead the Columbia College men's basketball team to an 89-72 win at Haskell Indian Nations University in non-conference play Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Cougars won their fourth-straight game to improve to 12-4, while Haskell lost its fifth-straight game and fell to 4-16.
Kai Steinman had 11 points and five assists, while
Nate Brandt added 10 points for Columbia, which shot 50 percent (29-58) from the field and hit 12 threes in the win. The Cougars also hit 19-of-22 from the three-throw line.
Parker scored five of the first seven points of the game as the Cougars led 7-0 in the opening 1:37, but Haskell went on a 10-0 run to take the 10-7 lead. The Cougars responded with a 14-2 run to gain the 24-15 advantage, which included five-straight points by Larson.
Steinman's wing three made it 31-26 with 7:00 to play, but Haskell scored five-straight points to tie the contest at 33-33. Brandt canned a three with 23 seconds left as the Cougars took the 45-40 lead to halftime.
Parker (19) and Larson (16) combined to score 35 points for Columbia, which shot 50 percent (16-32) in the first half, and hit six threes.
Brandt ignited a 22-0 run with seven-straight points as the Columbia lead grew to 72-49 with 10:13 to play. The Cougars limited Haskell without a bucket for 7:48 in the second half.
Bryan Strom (25 points), Nehemiah Boykins (24) and DK Middleton (13) scored in double figures for Haskell, which shot 43.9 percent (25-57) and hit 10 threes in the loss.
The Cougars host No. 13-ranked Central Baptist College on Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. as part of Sherwin-Williams Cover the Crowd T-Shirt Night. The Mustangs hold a one-game lead over Columbia for first place in the AMC standings.
