Cougars Hit 17 Threes in Win over Hannibal-LaGrange

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men's basketball team connected on 17 three-pointers in a 92-71 win over Hannibal-LaGrange University Thursday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Collin Parker (24 points, 12 rebounds) Harrison Vickers (18 points) and Carson Parker (14 points, 10 rebounds) all scored in double figures for Columbia, while Kai Steinman filled up the stat sheet with nine points, a career-high seven assists and six rebounds.
 
Columbia shot 53.3 percent (32-60) from the field, including 17-of-36 from three-point range, and outrebounded HLG 42-30. 
 
Columbia won its third-straight contest to improve to 15-5 (8-2 AMC), while HLG had its two-game win streak snapped and fell to 7-10 (4-6 AMC). 
 
Hannibal-LaGrange led 11-5 early in the contest after the Trojans hit three-straight shots from beyond the arc. Vickers got the Cougars going with a pair of threes to highlight a 12-0 run as Columbia gained a 19-13 lead with 13:10 left in the first half.
 
Nate Brandt pushed the lead to double figures (40-30) with a three-pointer, and then the Cougars ended the half on an 11-0 run to make it 51-33 at half. 
 
Columbia connected on 12-of-20 three-pointers in the first half as Parker (14) and Vickers (10) scored in double figures.
 
The Cougars connected on four three-pointers in a row to extend its lead to 65-44, and then scored seven-straight points to take a commanding 76-49 lead with 9:49 to play. 
 
Josh Talton (16 points) and Chris Cross (14) scored in double figures for Hannibal-LaGrange, which connected on 12-of-28 threes in the defeat.
 
The Cougars host Mission University on Saturday, January 25 at 3 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia won its 14th-straight game against HLG and leads the all-time series 77-12 ... Collin Parker went over 1,900 points for his career (1,921) ... The Cougars have won 15 or more games in 15-straight seasons ... Carson Parker moved into 11th place in program history in rebounds (591) and 30th in scoring (1,014).
