Cougars Split Doubleheader at Home
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Columbia College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Tuesday at Southwell Complex, defeating Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) in five sets before falling to Central Methodist in the nightcap.
Match One: Columbia 3, Crowley's Ridge 2
The Cougars opened the day with a hard-fought 25-27, 25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 15-8 victory over Crowley's Ridge.
After dropping the opening set, Columbia responded with a strong second set performance to even the match. The teams traded sets through the first four, setting up a decisive fifth set where the Cougars dominated 15-8 to secure the victory.
Isabella Kincaid paced the Cougars with 19 kills on 53 attacks while adding 16 digs for a double-double. Viola Giangreco contributed 15 kills with a .323 hitting percentage, and Kenedi Canty added 11 kills while hitting .409.
Hannah Vogt set a new career-high with 30 assists while also picking up 12 digs for a double-double. Alexa Olson totaled 27 assists.
Taylor Johnson also set a new career record with 32 digs.
Match Two: Central Methodist 3, Columbia 0
The Cougars couldn't maintain their momentum in the evening match, falling 25-19, 27-25, 25-17 to Central Methodist.
Central Methodist (20-7) controlled the first set from start to finish, taking it 25-19. Columbia battled back in the second set and had opportunities to even the match, but the Eagles prevailed 27-25. Central Methodist closed out the sweep with a 25-17 victory in set three.
Kincaid led the Cougars with 10 kills, while Giangreco, Canty, and Nazarena Avila each added five kills. Avila hit .556 for the match.
Vogt recorded 19 assists and Olson added 13. Johnson paced the defense with 24 digs.
