Cougars Claim AMC Regular Season Title With Win Over CBC

Conway, AR Columbia College men's soccer secured the American Midwest Conference regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a 3-1 comeback victory over Central Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Conway Soccer Park.

The Cougars (8-5-3, 4-0-1 AMC) rallied from an early deficit to claim the conference crown, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half to complete the title-clinching performance.

Central Baptist (5-8-1, 2-3 AMC) struck first when Braydon Hall netted his second goal of the season at 17:59 in the first half, assisted by Jack McNamara, sending the Mustangs into intermission with a 1-0 advantage.

Columbia responded with authority after the break. Joshua Peterson leveled the match at 49:23, finishing a well-worked play with assists from Alessandro Locatelli and Faraj Shee for his third goal of the season.

Josh Sutton then took over the game for the Cougars. The forward put Columbia ahead for good at 58:11 with help from Sidiki Kromah, marking his eighth goal of the campaign. Sutton sealed the victory with a penalty kick at 77:39 for his ninth goal of the season.

Mason Beck earned the win in goal for Columbia, making two saves while facing six Central Baptist shots. The Cougars held a significant 15-6 advantage in total shots.
