Cougars Rally In Second Half, Defeat Spartans 86-81

St. Louis, Mo. - The Columbia College Cougars overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Missouri Baptist 86-81 on Thursday night at Petty SRC.

After trailing 39-38 at the intermission, Columbia turned up the intensity in the second half, outscoring the Spartans 48-42 to secure the victory and improve to 12-2 overall.

Three Cougars finished in double figures with season-high scoring performances, led by Johnny Anderson with a game-high 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Anderson was nearly perfect from beyond the arc, draining 6-of-8 three-pointers, including four in the second half as the Cougars pulled away.

Jemeal Goines added a season-high 21 points on an efficient 7-of-13 shooting while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.

Adam Sausele recorded a season-high 19 points and was perfect from three-point range, hitting all three of his attempts.

Caleb Jones chipped in 13 points while converting 9-of-12 free throws.

AJ Walker provided solid playmaking with a team-high seven assists.

Columbia's offense caught fire in the second half, shooting 54.2% from the field after a slow 34.4% start in the first half. The Cougars were especially deadly from three-point range after intermission, hitting 62.5% of their attempts.

The home team controlled the paint battle, outscoring Missouri Baptist 36-30, and converted 11 turnovers into 11 points while taking care of the ball with just seven turnovers.

Columbia limited the Spartans to 25.0% shooting from three-point range (5-20).

The game featured seven ties and five lead changes, with Columbia's largest lead coming at 10 points. Missouri Baptist stayed within striking distance throughout the second half, but the Cougars' hot shooting and clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch sealed the victory.
