Cougars Stay Unbeaten at 9-0

Columbia, Mo. – Emma Daniels had a career-high 18 points and nine assists to lead the Columbia College women's basketball team to a 92-39 win over Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Columbia improved to 9-0 and 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference, while Crowley's Ridge dropped to 1-7 and 0-2 in the AMC.
 
"We talked before the game about bringing energy, and I appreciated the effort we came out with today," head coach Matt Moore said. "I was really proud of our team's overall performance."
 
Macie Harman, Mya Miller and Alli Robertson each scored 11 points, while Ashtyn Klusmeyer added nine points and seven rebounds. The Cougars shot 46.8 percent (37-of-79) from the field and dominated points off turnovers (34-6) and bench scoring (61-12).
 
Columbia burst out to a dominant 26-2 lead after the first quarter, knocking down four threes and committing zero turnovers. Daniels provided a spark off the bench with nine points on perfect shooting (3-of-3 FG, 2-of-2 FT), while the Cougars' defense held Crowley's Ridge to just 1-of-10 from the field.
 
Daniels' wing three capped a 15-2 surge that pushed the margin to 45-6 with 5:20 remaining in the half. 
 
Columbia carried a 54-10 advantage into the break behind 14 first-half points from Daniels, who stayed flawless at 5-for-5 from the floor. The Cougars held Crowley's Ridge to 14.3 percent shooting (3-of-21) and had a 20-0 advantage in points off turnovers in the first half. 
 
Columbia opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run as the lead grew to 63-12 with 4:49 left.
 
Brailey Houseman had 10 points to lead Crowley's Ridge, who hit 16-of-17 free-throws in the loss.
 
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9, traveling to NCAA Division I Western Illinois University for an exhibition game with a 7 p.m. tip-off. The Leathernecks enter the match-up with a 5-1 record and feature the Cougars' all-time leading scorer, Mallory Shetley, who is averaging 7.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game as a graduate student.
 
NOTES: Columbia has won three all-time meetings between the two teams … The Cougars had 13 players score in the victory … Columbia hit 11 threes; the fifth time they have hit 10 or more threes in a game … The 15 steals, 24 assists and 49 rebounds were a season high.
