Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Cougars posted a 70-53 win over Harris-Stowe University Thursday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
Mallory Shetley had 19 points and six rebounds to lead Columbia, while
Lexi Miller filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, six rebounds and a career-high five blocks.
Mya Miller (13 points, eight rebounds) and
Ashtyn Klusmeyer (10 points, seven rebounds) also scored in double figures for the Cougars, which limited Harris-Stowe to 33.8 percent shooting from the field in the win.
Columbia won its fifth-straight game to improve to 23-2 (17-2 AMC), while Harris-Stowe dropped its second-straight contest and fell to 7-18 (6-14 AMC). The Cougars remain one game behind first-place Williams Baptist in the AMC standings.
After turning the ball over on their first four possessions, the Cougars got things going offensively scoring 10-straight points to build a 10-4 lead. Columbia held onto a 17-14 lead after one quarter after shooting 50.0 percent (6-12) from the field.
Mya Miller scored the first five points of the second quarter as Columbia led 22-20, and then
Lexi Miller scored five-straight points to highlight the 8-0 run push the lead to 29-20.
Lexi Miller and Shetley each had eight first-half point as the Cougars had a slim 32-29 halftime advantage. Columbia limited Harris-Stowe to 13-of-35 shooting (37.1 percent) in the first half, and did not allow a three-pointer.
Lexi Miller canned a three top the top of the key to highlight an 8-0 run as the lead grew to 46-35 with 5:15 left in the third quarter. After six-straight points by the Hornets, Klusmeyer scored three buckets in a row to give Columbia the 52-46 lead after three.
The Cougars extended their lead double figures (59-49) after a corner three from
Lexi Miller, and then the lead grew to 61-50 with less than four minutes to play on a bucket by
Tori Rubel with the shot clock expiring.
Cailyn Dilosa had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-27 shooting to lead Harris-Stowe, while Samara Swire added 13.
The Cougars host Stephens College on Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m.
