Balanced Attack Leads Cougars Past Crowley's Ridge

Columbia, Mo. – Kai Steinman scored 24 points to lead four players in double figures as the No. 3 seed Columbia men's basketball team posted an 85-65 win over No. 6 seed Crowley's Ridge College in the quarterfinals of the 2025 American Midwest Conference Tournament Thursday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Collin Parker recorded a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Seth Larson (18 points, eight rebounds) and Harrison Vickers (10 points) also scored in double figures as the Cougars shot 55.1 percent (27-49) from the field in the win. Columbia also hit 22-of-30 from the free-throw line and had a 42-33 rebounding advantage.
 
The Cougars travel to No. 2 seed and No. 15-ranked Central Baptist College for the semifinals of the 2025 AMC Tournament on Saturday, March 3 at 3 p.m. The Mustangs defeated Mission University 83-76 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
 
Columbia improved to 22-7 with the win, while Crowley's Ridge had its season come to an end with a 15-14 record. The Cougars won all three games this season against CRC.
 
Nate Brandt, the AMC Freshman of the Year, came off the bench and knocked down a three to give the Cougars a 19-14 lead with 12:55 left in the first half. Crowley's Ridge cut the lead to two (27-25), but a 6-0 run by the Cougars pushed the advantage to 33-25.
 
The lead grew to double figures (38-27) with 4:16 before half after Collin Parker drained a three and then Tommy Hafer scored on a lay-up.
 
Columbia led 48-37 after 20 minutes of play behind 14 points from Collin Parker, while Steinman had 11 and Larson added nine. The Cougars shot 51.9 percent (14-27) from the field in the first half and hit 14-of-18 from the free-throw line.
 
The Pioneers scored the first five points of the second half to trim the lead to 48-42, but five-straight points got the lead back to double figures with (53-42) with 16:08 to play.
 
Crowley's Ridge missed 18 of 19 shots from the field as the Cougars extend their lead to 67-48 following a 10-0 run with less than nine minutes to play. Steinman had five-straight points during the Cougars' run.
 
Lamont Jackson (12 points), Arthur Johnson IV (12), Zak Brown (11), Braxton Cousins (11) and Timquorian Johnson (11) scored in double figures for Crowley's Ridge, which shot 32.9 percent (24-73) in the loss.
 
NOTES: Columbia has won four all-time meetings between the two teams ... The Cougars have won 22 or more games in three-straight seasons ... Collin Parker went over 2,100 points in his career (2,113) ... Carson Parker moved into 10th place in career rebounds (627).
