Lacrosse Upsets (RV) Benedictine in OT

ATCHISON, Kan. - In their second-straight overtime victory, the Columbia College lacrosse team remains undefeated in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). Columbia defeated (RV) Benedictine College (Kan.), earning their third-consecutive win. The Cougars improve to 3-4 on the season and 3-0 in the HAAC.

Leading the Cougars with four goals on the night, freshman Brock Pleis, scored the game-tying goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, while also securing the game-winning goal in overtime fashion.

Columbia saw a strong first quarter of action, outscoring Benedictine 4-1. With a man-up opportunity, Columbia posted their first goal of the match.The Cougars outshot the Ravens 10-7, while also gathering four face offs.

The Ravens brought the momentum in the second quarter of play, outscoring Columbia 5-0. Benedectine held a 12-8 advantage in shots, posting 11 on goal.

Into the half, the Ravens led 6-4.

The third quarter saw just four total goals, two from Columbia and two from Benedictine. Brock Pleis found the back of the net twice, with assists by Nico Andrews and William Rusk. Columbia trailed 8-6 heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Benedctine extended their lead, 9-6, before Drake Morrissey responded with a goal, assisted by William Rusk. The Ravens would produce what would be their final goal of the evening with five minutes remaining in regulation, 10-8. Zach Baker led the Cougars with two goals in the fourth quarter. Brock Pleis found the back of the net, assisted by Zach Baker with 30 seconds on the clock to tie the contest.

Tied up at 10 apeice, overtime was in store for both squads. Yet again, Brock Pleis secured the game-winning goal, assisted by Kail Mattis to bring the Cougars to an 11-10 overtime victory.

Stat Leaders:
Columbia returns to action for their first home game of the season on March 29 at 3:00 p.m. against Clarke University (Iowa).
