Fulton, Mo. - The Columbia College softball team continued conference play with a doubleheader today at William Woods University.
Game one saw both teams scoreless through four innings until
Madyson Wear hit a home run in the top of the fifth to get the scoring started. From there, the Cougars put up six more runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead which was played out to a final score as well.
Freshman
Megan Graver continued her impressive season as she went the distance in game one, only allowing three hits through 28 batters faced while striking out 14.
In game two, the Owls got on the board first in the first inning with a single RBI hit, and then again in the third with a home run.
After William Woods tacked on two more runs, the Cougars trailed 4-0 heading into the seventh inning.
Rosalie Schneider had an RBI single followed by an RBI single from
Ellie Kliethermes to cut the deficit to 4-2, but it would not be enough as the Owls ended the game with their third out.
After the split today, the Cougars move to 25-9 overall and 16-2 in conference play.
Columbia is now tied for first place in conference standings with Missouri Baptist, with William Woods in third place.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season this weekend on the road as they take on Crowley's Ridge on Friday and Williams Baptist on Saturday.
The American Midwest Conference softball tournament is scheduled for April 29th-May 3rd in Conway, Arkansas.
