Columbia Softball Drops Two Close Games in AMC Tournament

Conway, Ark. — April 30, 2025 — The Columbia College softball team ended postseason play with two close contests in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament on Wednesday. The Cougars came up just short in a nine-inning battle with William Woods University (WWU), 5-3, and later surrendered a lead to fall 6-5 to Williams Baptist University (WBU). The results conclude Columbia's 2025 season with an overall record of 27-14.

Game 1: William Woods 5, Columbia 3 (9 innings)

Trailing 3-0 entering the sixth inning, Columbia staged a dramatic rally to tie the game. Cassidy Avery sparked the comeback with a double, followed by an RBI double from Madyson Wear. Rosalie Schneider added a sacrifice fly to bring home the tying run. Despite continued pressure, the Cougars were unable to regain the lead. William Woods walked it off in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run homer.

Game 2: Williams Baptist 6, Columbia 5

The Cougars started strong, jumping out to a 5-0 lead behind timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Ellie Kliethermes delivered a two-run double, and Cassidy Avery followed with a two-run hit of her own. Shortstop Sophia Angel added two hits and scored twice, while infielder Abigail Zismer and first baseman Paige Klinge each drove in a run. However, WBU responded with six unanswered runs across the first three innings and held Columbia scoreless for the final three frames to clinch the win.
