Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College softball team swept the Stars of Stephens College today in American Midwest Conference play. 

The Cougars now sit in first place in the AMC standings with a conference record of 11-1 and an overall record of 20-8. 

Game one saw the Cougars holding a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Stars managed to get three runners on base with two outs. With the game tying runner on third, the Stars attempted to steal home but got caught stealing and tagged out, giving Columbia the game one win, 2-1. 

In game two, a 3-3 tie was held until the seventh inning when the Cougars found a late spark and totaled nine runs to extend their lead to 12-3. In the bottom of the seventh, the Stars had bases loaded and were looking to cut the deficit, but a fly out to center field ended the game. 

Columbia will play again this weekend against Central Baptist and Mission University on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, the Cougars will recognize their seniors before the games.
