Sutton's Brace, Freeman's Assists Lift Cougars Over No. 9 Missouri Valley

MARSHALL, Mo. – Scoring twice in the final 12 minutes of action, the Columbia College men's soccer team pulled off a stunning 2-1 upset victory over No. 9 Missouri Valley College on Monday evening, securing a dramatic comeback on the road.

After Missouri Valley took the lead in the 51st minute, the Cougars stormed back late in the second half to overtake the ninth-ranked Vikings. Josh Sutton became the hero for Columbia, netting the equalizer in the 79th minute and the game-winner in the 87th minute, both assisted by Brady Freeman.

The Cougars dominated several statistical categories, outshooting Missouri Valley 15-14 and holding a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Caden Hof stood in goal for Columbia, making three saves in the contest.

Hof earned the win in goal, making crucial saves including a penalty kick stop in the 27th minute that kept the match scoreless at halftime. Freeman's two assists were instrumental in Columbia's comeback effort.

The upset victory improves Columbia to 2-0-0 on the season while dropping Missouri Valley to 0-1-0. Columbia looks to gain their third win of the season against (RV) William Woods University (Mo.) on September 1 at 1:00 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
