Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College Cougars battled the Statesmen of William Penn University in a four-set match tonight.
The loss puts Columbia at 0-4 overall as they continue their 2025 campaign, while William Penn improves to 6-1.
Columbia plays again on Friday when they travel to the Missouri Valley tournament for two matches.
After dropping the first two sets, the Cougars found their offensive rhythm in the third set, dominating the Statesmen 25-14 to extend the match.
In the decisive fourth set, the Cougars battled back from multiple deficits and managed to take a late lead at 19-18. William Penn used a 6-2 scoring run to go ahead 24-21 before ultimately closing out the match, 25-22.Â
Defense was a bright spot for the Cougars as they totaled 15 team blocks throughout the match.
