St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a dominant 67-35 victory at Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon.
Ashtyn Klusmeyer paced the Cougars with a game-high 21 points, while Lexi Miller (10 points), Mya Miller (nine points, nine rebounds) and Lauren Friedrich (10 points) also contributed strong efforts for Columbia.
Columbia improved to 14-1 and 5-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while Harris-Stowe fell to 2-9 and 1-4 in the AMC.
The Cougars dominated the boards with a 58-36 rebounding advantage, including a 19-9 edge on the offensive glass that led to 20 second-chance points. Columbia also controlled the paint, outscoring the Hornets 38-12 in that area.
Klusmeyer ignited the Cougars early with back-to-back three-pointers as Columbia raced out to a 9-0 lead. The game remained close through the first quarter with Columbia holding a narrow 19-18 advantage, but the Cougars pulled away in the second period.
Columbia outscored Harris-Stowe 20-8 in the second quarter to build a commanding 39-26 halftime lead, highlighted by Friedrich's six points off the bench. The graduate student finished 4-for-7 from the field in the victory.
The Cougar defense took over in the second half, limiting the Hornets to just nine total points over the final two quarters as Columbia cruised to the 32-point victory. Harris-Stowe managed only five points in the third quarter and four in the fourth.
Klusmeyer finished 7-for-18 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, adding eight rebounds and three steals to her scoring output. Lexi Rubel orchestrated the offense throughout the afternoon with eight assists to go along with eight points and nine rebounds.
