Cougars Drain 16 Threes in Win at Crowley’s Ridge

Paragould, Ark. – The Columbia College women's basketball team connected on a season-high 16 three-point field goals in a 95-45 win at Crowley's Ridge College on Thursday in Paragould, Ark.

The 95 points marked a season high, and the Cougars shot over 50 percent from the field (51.4%) for the second time this season.
 
Lexi Miller scored 15 points on four three-pointers and moved past Tiffany Foote (2001-05) into 12th on the all-time scoring list (1,306). 
 
Ashtyn Klusmeyer led CC with 16 points, while Tori Rubel (12), Lauren Friedrich (11), Katherine Sievers (11) and Macie Harman (10) also scored in double figures. The Cougars had 12 steals and 24 assists in the win, and a 26-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
Columbia won its seventh-straight game to improve to 18-1 and 9-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while Crowley's Ridge fell to 0-19 overall and 0-9 in league play.
 
Klusmeyer scored eight straight points to give Columbia an early 12-11 advantage, despite Crowley's Ridge knocking down its first three shots from beyond the arc. Friedrich later hit a pair of three-pointers as the Cougars took a 20-14 lead after one quarter, with Klusmeyer leading CC with eight points.
 
Lexi Rubel connected on a 15-foot jumper to push the lead into double figures at 27-17, and Lexi Miller followed with seven straight points to make it 32-19.
 
Columbia carried a 47-28 lead into the break behind 15 points from Miller and 10 from Klusmeyer. The Cougars drained eight three-pointers in the first half and held a 15-0 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
CC opened the second half with a 9-0 run to double up the score at 56-28. Klusmeyer's jumper then pushed the lead past 30 at 61-30 with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter. The Cougars led 70-34 after three quarters of play, outscoring the Pioneers 23-6 in the period.
 
Brailey Houseman (21) and Mallory Welch (12) scored in double figures for Crowley's Ridge, who shot 39.1 percent (18-46) and committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
 
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, January 31 at receiving votes Williams Baptist University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
 
NOTES: Columbia leads the all-time series 4-0 … The six turnovers were tied for the second fewest of the season … The 11 points for Sievers were a career high.
