Cougars Dominate in Road Win at Hannibal

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Cougars recorded an 83-39 win at Hannibal-LaGrange University on Tuesday in Hannibal, Mo.
 
Ashtyn Klusmeyer and Lexi Miller lead the Cougars with 14 points each, while Macie Harman (12) and Mya Miller (11) also scored in double figures. The Cougars hit 11 three-pointers in the win, and had a 45-23 rebounding advantage.
 
Columbia improved to 12-1 and 3-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while Hannibal-LaGrange dropped to 3-9 and 0-3 in the AMC.
 
The Cougars jumped out to an 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter and held HLG without a field goal for the opening 5:26. Columbia limited HLG to 2-of-14 shooting in the period and carried a 21-7 lead after one quarter.
 
The Cougars scored 10 consecutive points, including eight straight by Lexi Miller on a pair of three-pointers, to extend the lead to 32-10 with 5:00 remaining before halftime. After a Spartans basket, Columbia responded with a 9-0 run to push the advantage to 41-12.
 
Columbia carried a 46-18 lead into halftime behind 11 points from Lexi Miller and eight points apiece from Emma Daniels and Klusmeyer. The Cougars held HLG to 26.9 percent shooting (7-of-26) and owned a 25-6 rebounding advantage.
 
A 10-0 run to open the third quarter pushed the Columbia lead to 56-18 with 6:49 left. The Cougars led 67-25 after three quarters.
 
Iva Lesley had a game-high 17 points for Hannibal-LaGrange, who was limited to 28.6 percent (16-56) from the field in the loss.
 
The Cougars return to action at Cottey College on Thursday, January 8 at 5:30 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia has won 48-straight meetings against Hannibal and leads the all-time series 51-1 … Lexi Miller moved into fourth in program history in threes made (226) and became the 14th player in school history to score 1,200 or more points in a career (1,209) … Head coach Matt Moore secured his 40th career win … Klusmeyer scored the 500th point of her career … The Cougars connected on 10 or more threes for the seventh time this season … Harman's 12 points were a career best.
