Cougars Draw with Eagles on the Road

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. — The Columbia College men's soccer team erased a two-goal halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Williams Baptist on Tuesday at WBU Soccer Field, as Faraj Shee's penalty kick and Grant Buer's late goal pulled the Cougars even.

Williams Baptist took a 2-0 lead into the break with goals in the fifth and 37th minutes. Columbia did get looks before halftime, including a header from Layton Dahl in the 14th minute and saves forced by Parker Rainwater and Drew Schlimme, but could not convert.

The Cougars came out of the break on the attack, putting seven shots on the board and winning four corner kicks. Shee had a header in the 47th minute, and Columbia got on the board in the 63rd minute when Shee converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Joshua Peterson and the Cougars kept the pressure on, and the equalizer came in the 82nd minute. Peterson set up Buer, who found the net to make it 2-2. Ricardo Fischbach made two saves in the second half, including one in the 82nd minute, and Charlie Lafata closed out regulation with a shot in the 90th minute that was saved. Columbia finished with 10 shots, six of them on goal.

With the draw, Columbia moves to 9-1-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play.

The Cougars return home next to host Mission University on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
