COLUMBIA, Mo. — Columbia College men's soccer clinched its 12th American Midwest Conference (AMC) regular season championship with a 1-0 win over Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday at R. Marvin Owens Field, as Faraj Shee's second-half goal held up behind a shutout effort in goal in the regular season finale.
Shee broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute, finishing off a feed from Nick Schneider for his 12th goal of the season and the game-winner. Columbia (12-2-2, 4-0-1 AMC) would not find the net again, but it didn't need to as the Cougars protected the lead the rest of the way.
Columbia out-shot Hannibal-LaGrange 12-10 on the night, including a 7-4 edge in the second half, and held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Mason Beck earned the win in goal, making four saves across the full 90 minutes to preserve the clean sheet. Sergio Arenas stopped one shot for Hannibal-LaGrange, which fell to 6-7-4 overall and 1-2-2 in AMC play.
The Cougars earned a first-round bye in the AMC Tournament and will host a semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 7 at R. Marvin Owens Field at 4:00 p.m. The opponent will be determined by the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
