Fayette, MO – Columbia College dropped the final game of the Valentine Invite on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-4 to Madonna University at Estes Field despite an early three-run lead.
The Cougars jumped out to a commanding start in the opening frame. Zac Fruend ignited the offense with a single up the middle, and Dylan Carlton followed with a base hit to right. Tyler Renn brought home the first run with an RBI single to center, and Braden Hemmer's double to right-center plated another. Matthew States added a sacrifice fly to give Columbia a 3-0 advantage.
Fruend extended the lead to 4-0 in the second inning with a solo home run to left field, but that would be all the scoring Columbia could muster.
Madonna (5-2) stormed back with a five-run third inning to take the lead for good.
