SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The (RV) Columbia College women's basketball punched its ticket to a sixth-consecutive American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament championship game Saturday, rolling past Mission (Mo.) 79-51 at the W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse. Lexi Rubel made history, pulling down 16 defensive rebounds to tie the AMC Tournament single-game record.
The Cougars (29-1) never trailed, jumping out to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter behind sharp three-point shooting. Ashtyn Klusmeyer and Lexi Miller each knocked down a pair of threes in the opening frame to set the tone early.
Columbia maintained control in the second quarter, outscoring Mission 14-6 to take a commanding 37-15 lead into halftime. The Cougars held the Patriots to six points in the second quarter. Klusmeyer continued to orchestrate the offense, finishing with 20 points and six assists on the day.
The Patriots showed some fight in the third quarter, cutting into the deficit with a 24-point period, but Columbia answered with 27 of its own to keep the lead well out of reach heading to the fourth.
Lexi Miller led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including six three-pointers.
Mission's Ireland Jones led the visitors with 12 points, but the Patriots shot just 25.8 percent from the field — never threatening the Cougars' grip on the contest.
Columbia awaits the winner of (2) Williams Baptist University (Ark.) and (3) Stephens College (Mo.) who face off at 5:15 p.m. today. Tip off for the AMC Finals is set for March 2nd at 4:00 p.m.
