Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team secured its 20th win of the season with an 97-32 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University on Tuesday at the Arena of Southwell Complex. The 97 points scored marked a season high for the Cougars.
CC has won 20 or more games in five-straight seasons and for the 21
st time in program history.
Columbia won its ninth-straight game to improve to 20-1 and 11-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while Hannibal-LaGrange dropped its fourth-straight contest and fell to 5-16 and 2-9 in the AMC.
Mya Miller led the Cougars with 11 points, while
Lexi Rubel added 10 points and tied a career-high with eight assists. Columbia shot 48.0 percent (36-of-76) from the field in the win and hit 14 three-pointers. The Cougars also dominated all specialty stats: points off turnovers (32-6), second-chance points (19-3) and points in the paint (38-8).
Columbia raced out to a 9-0 lead just three minutes into the contest, fueled by three buckets in the paint and a three-pointer from
Lexi Miller. The Cougars closed the first quarter on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 26-9 advantage, shooting 10-of-20 from the field in the opening period.
Lexi and
Tori Rubel each knocked down a three during a 13-0 run that pushed the Columbia lead to 39-12 with 6:41 remaining before halftime. Columbia capped the second quarter by scoring the final 14 points to build a dominant 53-14 lead at the break.
The Cougars connected on 10 three-pointers in the first half and owned a 20-2 edge in points in the paint.
Lexi Rubel led the way with nine points, while
Lauren Friedrich added eight.
Columbia opened the third quarter with a 9–0 run, extending their lead to 62-14. The Cougars built a 76-23 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
Mykeal Elliott had a game-high nine points for Hannibal, which committed 29 turnovers in the loss.
The Cougars host Cottey College on Thursday, February 5 at 5:30 p.m.
