COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Columbia College softball team swept a doubleheader against Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.) on Sunday at home, taking game one 8-0 (5 inn.) and game two 8-0 (6 inn.). The Cougars improve to 15-11 overall and 5-3 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.
Game One: Columbia def. Harris-Stowe, 8-0 (5 inn.)
- Ella Schouten was dominant in the circle, giving up only one hit and striking out 10 of the 12 batters she faced over four perfect innings before Micaiah Cordell finished off the fifth.
- Abigail Zismer led the offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBI and two stolen bases, while Taryn Hagardt added two bunt singles and an RBI.
- Columbia scored in each of the first four innings, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning that included a pair of passed ball/error runs and a two-RBI single from Zismer.
- Five Cougars finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Game Two: Columbia def. Harris-Stowe, 8-0 (6 inn.)
- Columbia scored three runs in the first inning on a Rosalie Schneider RBI double and a pair of wild pitches.
- Cassidy Avery hit an inside-the-park three-run home run in the third, pushing the lead to 6-0.
- Abigail Zismer added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the third, and Avery capped the scoring in the sixth with an RBI triple to right field.
- Avery finished 2-for-4 with four RBI, while Schneider went 2-for-3 and Schanuth scored three runs.
- Megan Graver earned the win, tossing four shutout innings and striking out five. Kathryn Guinn closed out the final two innings, adding three more strikeouts.
Columbia returns to action taking on crosstown opponent, Stephens College for an away match up on April 3rd. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m.
