Columbia Rallies Past Graceland

LAMONI, Iowa – Columbia College scored in each half and answered a late Graceland equalizer within seconds to defeat the Yellowjackets 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Lamoni.

The Cougars (3-1) got on the board first when Camilo Ocampo buried a header off a Josh Sutton corner kick in the 49th minute, beating Graceland goalkeeper Yuta Hirano for his first collegiate goal to make it 1-0.

Graceland (3-1) tied the match in the 76th minute as Juan Gelves found the net off an assist from Enoch Fanesi, but the celebration was short-lived. Just shortly after the ensuing kickoff, Sutton struck back for Columbia, finishing a feed from Grant Buer to restore the lead at 2-1.

The Cougars put the result away in the 84th minute when Faraj Shee converted a penalty kick to make it 3-1.

Graceland outshot Columbia 19-16 overall, but the Cougars held the edge on target, 8-6, and got a stellar performance in goal from Mason Beck, who turned away five shots to earn the win. Hirano made five saves of his own in the loss for Graceland.

The Cougars controlled the run of play in the second half, outshooting the Yellowjackets 13-3 after the break following a scoreless, three-shot-to-eight first 45 minutes.
