Ian Wolfe

Ian Wolfe was named the first head coach for the men’s lacrosse team at Columbia College in the fall of 2016. 

Columbia produced a record of 9-7 (.562) in the 2022 season. Six student athletes were named  KCAC All-Conference team. The Cougars made it to the KCAC Semifinals, coming just short of making it to the championship game.

The Cougars came off an overall record of 14-1 (.933) while achieving their highest ranking in program history of #3 in the nation in 2021. Wolfe led the team to a 2021 KCAC Tournament Championship as well as an undefeated KCAC regular-season title. Wolfe was named KCAC Coach of the Year while eight athletes achieved KCAC All-Conference honors. The Cougars made it to the NAIA Men’s Lacrosse Invitational for the first time in program history making it to quarterfinals.

Wolfe and the Cougars produced an overall record of 4-1 (.800) in the 2020 season due to COVID-19. The team consisted of six KCAC Scholar Athletes, one NAIA Player of the Week, while also recognized as part of the NAIA Scholar Team.

In the 2019 season with the Cougars, Wolfe led his team to a 7-7 (.500) overall record including a 3-3 record in KCAC play. After starting the season 7-2 and 3-0 in conference, the Cougars cracked the NAIA Men’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Top 10 poll for the first time in program history, ranking seventh in the country. Wolfe coached three KCAC All-Conference players and had two players receive KCAC Player of the Week honors in the 2019 season.

In the Cougars first season in 2018, Wolfe led his team to a 6-9 (.400) overall record including a 2-4 mark in KCAC play. The Cougars started the season strong outscoring their opponents 32-3 in their first two matches. They cooled off as the season progressed but were able to win four of their first six games. For their efforts, four players were recognized with All-KCAC honors and Wolfe was named the KCAC Co-Coach of the Year.
The Pittsburgh, Pa., native comes to Columbia College after serving as the Head Coach at Chartiers Valley High School in Pittsburgh. At Chartiers Valley, he led the team to its first playoff berth in three years. While there Wolfe had two all WPIAL selections and two all-conference players.
 
Prior to being the Head Coach at Chartiers Valley, Ian spent two years as the Graduate Assistant at Lourdes University in Toledo, Ohio. He was instrumental in helping Lourdes University start their men’s lacrosse program. He helped the Gray Wolves finish 11-3 and rank as high as #14 in the MCLA in their very first year as a program. 
 
In his two years at Lourdes, Wolfe coached one WHAC Newcomer of the Year, three WHAC First-Team All-Conference players, three WHAC Third-Team All-Conference players, and three WHAC All-Conference Honorable Mention players. He also had players win the WHAC Player of the Week Accolades on thirteen different occasions. 
 
Wolfe played lacrosse at Lake Erie College. While at Lake Erie College, he was part of the first freshman class. He helped lead the team to the ECAC Championship game and the NCAA tournament in 2013. In his senior season Lake Erie reached as high at 9th in the national polls, in only the fourth season as a program.
