Gordon Lyng

Gordon Lyng joined the Columbia College athletic staff in August 2016 as the Graduate Assistant coach for the Men and Women’s soccer teams.

Gordon was a New Jersey All-State soccer player who brings years of playing and coaching experience to the Cougar soccer staff. Gordon earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History and K-12 Special Education from Kean University in New Jersey where he was also a four-year member of the Men’s Soccer program.

In 2010, Gordon helped the Kean University soccer program win the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship, earning a bid to the NCAA tournament. In 2013, Gordon earned captains honors. He ended the 2013 season being selected to the All-Conference team while receiving the Kean University men’s soccer Most Valuable Player award. During his time at Kean, he was a part of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was selected to attend the NCAA Scholar Athlete Luncheon in 2013 and 2014.

Gordon has coaching and administrative experience from serving as the Manager of Administration and Equipment Manager of FC Copa Soccer Academy based out of New Jersey. On top of Gordon’s professional duties with the academy, he was an assistant coach to all of their youth teams, futsal programs, summer select teams, and semi-professional teams, as well as head coaching two of his own teams within the academy. Gordon joined the semi-professional ranks after a stint on FC Copa’s inaugural NPSL team, NJ Copa FC. Gordon has coached internationally for FC Copa at the Interanionale de Laval tournament in Montreal, Canada (2015) and has international playing experience, playing in England (2010) and China (2014). Gordon also has experience with Olympic Development Program (ODP) camps, working as a coach for the Region I boys.

Gordon spent the summer of 2016 in Maine working as an Athletic Director and Soccer Director for Camp Skylemar, an all-boys sports camp that has over 300 athletes. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Teaching (MAT) at Columbia College. Gordon holds a USSF license and is a current member of the NSCAA.
