Coaching Bio
After serving three seasons as assistant coach for the Columbia College women's basketball program, Matt Moore was named head women's basketball coach in May 2024 as the fifth head coach in the program's history.
During his first year at the helm, Columbia began the season with 18 straight wins, totaling a 28-4 overall record including a 19-3 mark in American Midwest Conference play. The Cougars captured their fourth-straight (ninth overall) AMC Tournament title and claimed the highest winning percentage in program history at 87.5 percent and fewest losses in a season with four.
In his final season as an assistant (2023-24), the Cougars produced their third-consecutive AMC regular season title and eighth overall AMC tournament championship. Columbia captured a 27-5 overall record, going 16-2 in AMC action.
The previous season (2022-23), the Cougars compiled a strong 26-5 overall record while going 18-2 in conference play. Columbia grabbed their second-consecutive AMC Tournament Championship, advancing to their eighth-straight NAIA Championship venture.
Moore first joined the Columbia College women's basketball staff during the 2021-22 season, helping lead the Cougars to a 26-7 overall record and a 16-2 AMC mark. The squad also won their first AMC Tournament Championship since the 2017-18 campaign.
Prior to joining the Columbia coaching staff, Moore spent the COVID shortened 2020-21 season as an assistant at St. Louis Community College where he spearheaded the recruiting efforts for Coach Jacob Yorg and the Archers.
Â
Coach Moore spent three years as an assistant for Westminster College in Fulton, MO from 2017-2020. During his time with Westminster he helped lead an offense that rewrote the Blue Jays record book. Moore and Arnold spent two of those years together, 2017-19, in Fulton where the top five records for points in a game in school history were set. Their squad reached the conference tournament in both seasons they were together and in 2017-18, advanced to the title game for just the fourth time in school history, becoming the first-ever No. 4-seed to upset the No. 1-seed and advance to the championship.
Â
While at Westminster, Matt helped mentor Kendahl Adams, who broke season records for field goals made, season free throws made, and points in a season. Adams, who scored over 1,000 points in just two years, was also named a WBCA Division III All-Star in 2018-19, a two-time D3Hoops.com third team selection, two-time SLIAC All-Tournament Team, and two time 1
st Team All-Conference. Additionally, Matt played a key role in the development of Mirrakohl Johnson, Grace Archambault, and Kallee Dowler. Johnson broke the season single game, single season, and career rebounding record and also scored over 1,000 career points. She was named to the SLIAC All-Defensive Team in 2018-19, All-Tournament team in 2018, and a two-time All-Conference selection. In 2017-18 Grace Archambault was named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, an All-Defensive Team Selection, and a 3
rd Team All-Conference Selection. Kallee Dowler broke the record for most three-point field goals in a single season and was a two-time All-Conference selection.Â
Â
Before Westminster, Moore got his coaching career started at Southeast Missouri State University where he began as a practice player for the Redhawks before becoming lead manager.Â
Â
Matt resides with his family, Lily and their son, Wade, in Columbia.Â
