Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The 18
th-ranked Cougar men's soccer team tied visiting Lyon (Ark.) College 2-2 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. Columbia moves to 9-2-3 with the draw and remains unbeaten in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with a mark of 6-0-2.
The Scots would get on the board first in the opening half as Stuart Bramley snuck a shot by goalkeeper
Matt McKenna at the 10:09 mark. Despite 18 first half shots by the Cougars, they were unable to get on the board until a free kick by
Dale McCormack found the back of the net in the 41
st minute. Coming out of the halftime break, neither defense gave the opposition much to work with offensively. Columbia was whistled for a hand ball in the penalty box in the 23
rd minute of the second period and Lyon's Jack Hayes would convert the kick for a 2-1 Scots lead. The Cougars evened things up less than nine minutes later when
Rafael Ramos put in a cross from
Zach Oppland to tie it at 2-2. The tie score would hold up over the remainder of regulation and send the contest into overtime. Both defenses tightened up in the twenty minutes of extra time as both squads registered just one shot apiece.
Columbia will be back in action on Thursday, October 17
th to take on AMC rival Park (Mo.) University. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium and will follow the Cougar women's game.
