Box Score Hannibal, Mo. - The Columbia men's soccer team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in their final game of the 2013 regular season. With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-5-3 overall and 7-1-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). The loss drops the Trojans to 9-7-1 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Neither team was able to find much offense for the majority of the contest until Hannibal's Manual Saez broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 74
th minute. Columbia responded a little over five minutes later as
Adam McChesney evened the score with his second goal of the season. Both defenses would tighten up over the remainder of regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 1-1. After neither squad scored in the first ten minutes of extra time, a foul by the Trojans in the penalty box gave the Cougars'
Rafael Ramos a free kick opportunity with just over a minute to play in the second overtime frame. Ramos would convert the kick to give Columbia the dramatic overtime victory to close out the regular season.
Hannibal-LaGrange finished with a slight 16-15 shot advantage in the match.
Brady Wulff had two saves to earn his first win of the season in goal for the Cougars.
Columbia will be back in action when the AMC Postseason Tournament kicks off on Saturday, November 9
