Box Score Marshall, Mo. - The Cougar men's soccer team suffered a tough-luck 1-0 loss to 17
th-ranked Missouri Valley College on Tuesday night. Columbia, ranked 15
th in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll, drops to 2-2-1 on the year while the Vikings improve to 3-1-0.
The lone score of the contest came in the later minutes of the first half as Missouri Valley's Alberto Linan Gomez kicked in a goal in the 36
th minute. The Vikings would take the 1-0 lead into the halftime break after outshooting the Cougars 11-3 in the opening period.
The Missouri Valley defense continued to stifle Columbia during the second half as the Cougars were limited to four shots over the final 45 minutes. The Vikings dominated the contest with a 24-7 and 15-3 advantage in shots and shots on goal, respectively. Senior
Matt McKenna took the loss in goal for Columbia despite logging 13 saves.
The Cougars will wrap up play this week with a non-conference match against Westminster (Mo.) College on Thursday, September 12
th. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
