Box Score St. Louis, Mo. - The Cougar men's soccer team tied American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University 1-1 on Friday afternoon. Columbia moves to 4-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play with the draw.
The Hornets were able to grab an early lead on a goal by Pierre Donaldson just six minutes into the game. The Cougars would pull even midway through the first half on senior
Antonio Ayres' first goal of the season in the 23
rd minute. The remainder of the opening period turned into a defensive battle as the two squads went into halftime tied 1-1.
Coming out of the halftime break, Columbia dominated on the offensive side of the ball and held a 6-2 advantage in shots during the second half. However, neither side was able to get on the board over the final 45 minutes of regulation as the game was sent into overtime.
The Cougars would outshoot Harris-Stowe 6-0 in the 20 minutes of extra time, but could not find the net as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Columbia outshot the Hornets 17-4 in the contest and senior
Matt McKenna had one save in goal.
The Cougars will be back in St. Louis on Tuesday, September 24
th for a conference matchup with Missouri Baptist University. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
