Cougar men remain unbeaten in AMC play

Box Score Hannibal, Mo. - The third-ranked Columbia men's basketball team extended their latest winning streak to six games with a 67-51 road victory at conference foe Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cougars improve to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC).

With the score tied at 10-10 after seven minutes of play, Columbia began a 9-0 run to take the lead for good as Wendell Crowder capped things off with a three-pointer at the 10:43 mark. The Trojans would answer with a 9-2 run of their own during the next four and a half minutes and the Cougars went into the halftime break with a 30-27 advantage after shooting just 32 percent from the field in the first period.

Tanner Sutton and Jeremy Nolen each knocked down a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the second half as Columbia stretched their lead out to 41-27 with 11 straight points to begin the final period. Hannibal-LaGrange would cut the deficit to nine midway through the frame, but the Cougars quickly responded with a 12-3 run to extend their lead back out to double-digits the rest of the way.

Columbia shot just under 40 percent (23 of 58) for the game and received scoring contributions from ten different players, led by Crowder and Gerardo Isla with 11 points each. Patric Massey added nine points and a game-high nine rebounds as the Cougars finished with a 35-26 advantage on the boards.

Columbia will host conference newcomer Mid-Continent (Ky.) University in their next game on Tuesday, January 14th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
