Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar soccer team picked up its fourth American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory and third shutout tonight, tallying a 2-0 win over Missouri Baptist University. The victory pushes Columbia's overall mark to 6-3-2. The Cougars are 4-1-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Spartans to 1-10-2 overall and 1-5 in league action.
Sophomore
Nick Horne got the Cougars on the board in the first half with a goal at the 14-minute mark.
Rasmus Juul Pedersen assisted on the score. Horne's 2
nd goal of the season would mark the lone tally of the opening period as Columbia took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Much like the first half, both teams played physical and sound defense to open the second period. The second goal would come in the 61
st minute after Missouri Baptist goalie, John Schnurbusch, was unable to secure a penalty shot by
Edin Campara. Campara followed the shot and found the back of the net to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. The Cougars would hold-on down the stretch to complete the 2-0 shutout.
Junior
Daniel Ainsworth started and earned the win in goal for Columbia, posting two saves on the night. The Spartans totaled seven shots (two on-goal) for the game, compared to 13 shots for the Cougars (eight on-goal).
Columbia College will return to action Tuesday, October 14
th when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark. to take on Williams Baptist College. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m.
