Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia Cougar women's soccer team notched a big victory tonight, defeating Missouri Baptist University 2-0. The Cougars improve to 6-4-1 on the season and 6-0-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play. The loss drops the Spartans of Missouri Baptist to 5-4-3 and 5-1-0 in league play.
Columbia's
Kelly Ross put the first tally on the board to give the Cougars the lead over the Spartans with one minute remaining in the first half. Columbia would take the 1-0 lead heading into the second half. After 16 minutes of scoreless play to begin the second period,
Laurie Frew launched her team-leading 5
th goal of the year to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead to complete the scoring.
Tori Magaletta assisted on both goals of the night.
Columbia outshot Missouri Baptist 15-4 for the game, with the Cougars converting 2 of 10 shots on goal.
Flavia Rosado posted two saves on the night and earned the shutout win in goal.
The Cougars will be back in action Tuesday, October 14
th when they travel to Williams Baptist College for another AMC matchup. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Batesville, Ark.
