Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo.- The Columbia Cougar volleyball team earned two wins at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Missouri Baptist University today, defeating St. Catharine College by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-19, and Culver Stockton College by marks of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-20. The wins take Columbia, which is ranked No. 13 in the latest NAIA poll, to 23-4 on the season.
Senior
Brooke Simpson's 16 kills were enough to lead the Cougars to a win over St. Catharine College in their first match of the day.
Manon Soraru chipped in with 11 kills while
Paula Rosa and
Polina Severina notched ten kills apiece.
Lydie van Deursen logged 41 assists to lead all players and
Sarah Schwentker had a match high 13 digs.
The Cougars went on to defeat Culver Stockton College with van Deursen leading the way with 37 assists. Rosa posted 13 kills while Severina had 12 kills.
Brooke Simpson added 9 kills and had a match high 17 digs.
Following the completion of today's matches,
Polina Severina and
Brooke Simpson were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Cougars return home on Wednesday, October 15
th when they host AMC member Benedictine University-Springfield in the Arena of Southwell Complex at 7 p.m.
