Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia Cougar women's soccer team picked up a victory today during the Columbia College Homecoming celebrations, knocking off Benedictine University at Springfield by a score of 2-1. The Cougars improve to 4-4-1 on the season and move to 4-0 in AMC play. The Bulldogs from Benedictine at Springfield drop to 7-3-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
The match remained scoreless until freshman
Tiffany Weaver finally put the Cougars on the board 50 minutes into the game.
Katelyn Palmer assisted on the goal. Palmer put the Cougars ahead by two in the 58
th minute when she found the back of the net off a pass from
Jordan Poire. The Bulldogs would answer back in the 68
th minute when Lyndi Saccaro rifled a shot into the net, but the Cougar defense held firm the final 21 minutes to preserve the 2-1 win.
Columbia dominated the shot count, logging 17 shots (five on-goal) to just seven shots (five on-goal) by the Bulldogs.
Flavia Rosado took the win in goal for the Cougars, notching four saves.
The Cougars return to the field Wednesday, October 8 when they travel to Fulton, Mo. to take on the Owls of William Woods. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
