Fulton, Mo. - The Cougar women' soccer team defeated William Woods University 1-0 tonight in a key American Midwest Conference (AMC) game. With the win, Columbia improves to 5-4-1 on the year and 5-0 in AMC play. The Owls drop to 3-5-2 with a 2-1-2 mark in conference action.
Kelly Ross put the Cougars on the board in the opening period with her second goal of the season in the 20
th minute. Columbia maintained the 1-0 advantage over the remainder of the first half while outshooting the Owls 13-2 which included four shots on goal compared to the Owl's one. Columbia was able to hold off the Owls for the remainder of the game to earn the shutout and remain at the top of the AMC standings.
Columbia outshot William Woods 24-8 for the game, with the Cougars converting 1 of 6 shots on goal.
Flavia Rosado posted four saves on the night and earned the shutout win in goal.
Flavia Rosado was selected as this week's recipient of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. Rosado, a sophomore goalkeeper from Juiz de Fora, Brazil helped anchor the Cougars' defensive efforts in their two matches last week. Flavia was in goal for both victories over Lindenwood University-Belleville and Benedictine University at Springfield. She had two saves in the Cougars' 4-1 victory over Lindenwood-Belleville on Tuesday night and had four saves in the 2-1 win over Benedictine-Springfield.
The Cougars will return home to host AMC foe Missouri Baptist University on Saturday, October 11
th. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
