Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar men's soccer team moved a step closer to the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament championship with a 2-1 semifinal victory over Park University tonight. Columbia, the tournament's No. 2 seed, improves to 11-5-2 overall.
The Cougars struck first with a tally in the 13
th minute after
Edin Campara notched his fourth goal of the season to take an early 1-0 lead.
Rasmus Juul Pedersen was credited his 5
th assist of the season on the goal. The Pirates pulled even with six minutes remaining in the first half when Andre D'Elia headed in a pass from Lucas Sousa. Â The Cougars regained the lead on a score by
Marko Paunovic with just over three minutes to play in the period. Campara picked up the assist on the play. In the second half both teams went back and forth, but failed to capitalize on any scoring opportunities.
Daniel Ainsworth started in goal for the Cougars, logging three saves. Columbia outshot Park 11-9 on the night, with the Cougars posting five shots on-goal compared to four for the Pirates.
Columbia will travel to Belleville, Ill. to take on the No. 1 seed Lindenwood University-Belleville on Friday, November 14
th with a chance to claim the AMC Tournament championship title. The Cougars lost to the Lynx 0-1 in their regular season meeting back on September 30
th. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
