Cougars roll to eighth straight win

Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar men's basketball team extended their latest winning streak to eight games with an 88-57 conference win over Hannibal-LaGrange University at home on Saturday afternoon. Columbia improves to 24-2 overall and 15-1 in the American Midwest Conference with the victory.

The Cougars used a 20-5 run midway through the first period as they gained separation on their way to a 37-18 halftime lead. Columbia hit 14 of 30 attempts from the field in the half and also owned a 19-13 rebounding advantage, while holding the Trojans to 33 percent from the floor.

Devin Griffin knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the opening minutes of the second half as the Cougars stretched their lead out to 59-29 at the 12:30 mark. Columbia would roll to victory from there, shooting 63 percent over the final 20 minutes to finish at 55 percent for the game.

Griffin finished with a game-high 14 points to lead a balanced Cougar attack that saw all 13 players crack the scoring column. Chantel Stanciel had 10 points and Gerardo Isla added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Columbia will face off with Mid-Continent University on the road in their next game on Tuesday, February 18th. The Cougars hung on for a 70-67 win in the two teams' first meeting on January 14th in Columbia. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm in Mayfield, Ky.
