Box Score Belleville, Ill. - The Cougar men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 shutout loss to Lindenwood University-Belleville on the road tonight. Columbia drops to 4-3-1 and 2-1 in conference play with the defeat, while the Lynx improve to 8-1-0 and 5-0 in AMC play.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 67
th minute on a fast break for the Lynx. Bellville's Leonardo Ferri narrowly missed the goal, hitting the post, but Cesar Acosta was there to rebound, putting it in and giving the Lynx a one goal lead.
The Cougars came close to tying the game twice at the 77
th minute mark but Nicolas Nicolaci came up with two big saves off of a
Mark Steiniger shot and a
Rasmus Juul Pedersen shot off a corner kick.
One last effort from the Cougars saw
Vadim Cojocov's shot run wide, giving the Lynx a 1-0 conference victory.
Daniel Ainsworth takes the loss in goal with eight saves.
Vadim Cojocov, a junior forward, picked up American Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after last week's performance. Cojocov notched two goals this week in one contest beating conference member Harris-Stowe State University. The Finglas, Dublin native helped the Cougars to a 5-0 shutout victory over the Hornets when he found the back of the net in the 13
th minute of play. He added his second goal of the contest in the 39
th minute giving the Cougars the win.
Columbia College will return to action Saturday, October 4
h when they host Benedictine University-Springfield. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
