Five Second Half Goals Pushes Cougars Past Hornets

St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia women's soccer team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over conference foe Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University on the road this afternoon. With the win, the Cougars improve to 12-3 overall and 9-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.

After 55 minutes of scoreless action, senior Kelli Westhues got the scoring started with a goal to put the Cougars on the board. Westhues would strike again 13 minutes later to extend the Cougar lead to 2-0, bringing her season total to eight goals.

AMC leading scorer, Laurie Frew notched her 18th goal of the year to give the Cougars a 3-0 advantage over the Hornets in the 73rd minute after a penalty kick. Two quick goals by Yuko Shinomiya and Katelyn Palmer in the 81st and 83rd minute would put the game away, as Columbia picked up their 10th shutout of the season.

Columbia outshot HSSU 15-2 for the game. Junior Flavia Rosado (12-3) picked up the shutout in goal for Columbia, posting one save. Palmer was also credited with an assist in the contest.

Columbia will take to the field again on Saturday, October 17th for a conference matchup with Central Baptist College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
