Georgetown, Ky. – The 5
th-ranked Columbia volleyball team split a pair of contests on the road today, falling to 7
th-ranked Viterbo University 3-1 (22-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-25) in the early match before knocking off No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan University 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16). The Cougars move to 21-7 on the year with the split.
In the first match of the day, Viterbo took a 2-0 advantage after winning the first two sets. The Cougars bounced back and took the third set 25-21, but the No. 7 ranked V-Hawks went on to win the fourth set 25-15 to pull off the upset over the Cougars.
Penny Liu paced the Cougar's after notching a season-high 29 kills on 51 attempts to finish with a .569 hitting efficiency.
Sashiko Heredia dished out 50 assists and
Mikah Simpson led the team with 18 digs in the contest.
In the second match of the day the Cougars came out dominating the Wildcats with the sweep. Liu led the attack with 14 kills and nine digs. Heredia chipped in 32 assists while Simpson recorded nine digs.
The Cougars will be back in action Thursday, October 29
th when they take on Hannibal-LaGrange University. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Hannibal, Mo.
