Columbia, Mo. – The Cougar men's soccer team won its sixth straight game on Saturday afternoon, defeating conference opponent Williams Baptist (Ark.) College by a score of 528. Columbia moves to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in league play with the win. The Eagles fall to 4-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference action.
Vadim Cojocov struck first for the Cougars just five minutes into the contest after connecting with
Zachary Felz.
The Eagles stormed down the field trying to find the equalizer, but a pair of beautiful saves by
Iain McTurk would keep Williams Baptist off of the board.
Four minutes later,
Mitchell Conning added a second tally, giving the Cougars an early 2-0 lead over the Eagles.
Luiz Guilherme Stein and
Lakin Kehde were credited with assists on the goal.
Conning found the net again in the 15
th minute, after a penalty kick as a result of a foul by Williams Baptist in the box. Guilherme Stein added the last goal of the half in the 23
rd minute after Conning kicked it out wide to Cojocov who then crossed it back for the goal.
Columbia would carry the 4-0 lead into the halftime break, outshooting the Eagles 11-10 in the half.
After 22 minutes of scoreless action in the second half,
Edin Campara traveled the field and rifled a shot into the goal to give the Cougars a 5-0 advantage. McTurk picked up the assist on the play. Columbia continued to apply pressure over the next several minutes, but was unable to add to their lead.
The Cougars outshot the Eagles 28-15 for the game. McTurk (7-0) earned the win in goal, posting seven saves.
The Cougars will take the field again on Tuesday, October 6
th when they travel to Culver-Stockton College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
