Cougar Men’s Soccer Continues to Roll; Picks up Seventh Straight Win

Canton, Mo. – The Columbia College men's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Culver-Stockton College by a score of 2-1 tonight, extending their winning streak to seven games. With the victory, the Cougars improve their overall record to 10-2.

The Cougars and Wildcats played to a 0-0 tie through the first 45 minutes of play. Columbia outshot Culver-Stockton 11-5 and had five corner kicks, but Wildcat goalkeeper Robert Jones would keep the Cougars off of the board, making four saves.

Edin Campara would strike in the 49th minute after lifting a shot over the head of Jones to give Columbia the 1-0 advantage. The Cougars extended their lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute after Vadim Cojocov put in a rebound shot by Matija Ceraj.

The Wildcats didn't back down from there, as Dominic Caruso found the back of the net in the 89th minute to cut the deficit in half.

Culver-Stockton would get one last chance as a Columbia foul resulted in a free kick, but couldn't get the job done.

The Cougars outshot the Wildcats 21-8 for the game and put nine shots on the net. Iain McTurk (8-0) earned the win in goal and posted four saves.

Columbia returns to the field Saturday, October 10th when they host American Midwest Conference opponent Lyon College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
